I started my journey in the disability industry after migrating to Australia working as Nursing Assistant at Paraplegic Quadriplegic Centre Shenton Park, Perth. I worked here for over 2.5 yrs. looking after people with complex diverse disabilities related to spinal cord injury like paraplegia and quadriplegia, Multiple Sclerosis, ABI, and Mental health related Psychosocial disabilities. There after I joined aged care nursing whereby, I worked for over 2.5yrs as a Registered Nurse further giving me exposure and introduction to the geriatric’s world with its own complexities like Dementia, Chronic cancer, and complex wound dressings.
After working in Aged Care sector, I finally decided to take a jump to Acute world and started my journey at Armadale Health service as a Medical surgical nurse and worked there for 2 years after which I moved to St John of God Hospital Midland closer to my new home. I have been working with St John of God Midland Hospital since then across various settings such as Medical-surgical, ICU, Emergency Ward, Rehabilitation and Short Stay Units for Day procedures. I take pride in myself with over a decade of experience in Health Care settings as a Registered Nurse.
Having a lived experience with family members with intellectual disability and seeing family members struggling and battling mental health has always been a part of my life’s journey and has always kept me engaged with the sector and perhaps understand it more better.
With the introduction of NDIS in WA and being new to it at the hospital settings as well, I was fascinated and inspired to learn more about the NDIS world and the scheme to see what it has to offer for people with disabilities. I stepped into NDIS world and started my new journey as a Specialist Support Coordinator to later being promoted to a Manager of Support Coordination role. I have not looked back since then and have constantly kept striving forward in my career!
